In many manufacturing areas, such as assembly or welding, manual processes continue to be relied upon. With the Automation Potential Analysis (APA) from Fraunhofer IPA, these workflows can be specifically examined for automation suitability. The method evaluates processes based on specific criteria and customer requirements and provides concrete recommendations—whether for full or partial automation or solutions involving human-robot collaboration (HRC).
The APA method has already been successfully applied in over 500 international projects. Our app, developed in collaboration with Fraunhofer, expands upon this method and makes the analysis even more efficient.
Another way to increase production efficiency is through automation-friendly product design under the motto „Design for Automation.“ Even if the APA shows that (partial) automation is not worthwhile, „Design for Automation“ can often improve manual assembly and reduce errors.

Working more efficiently in times of skilled labor shortages
Analysis of manual processes for targeted automation decisions.
In many manufacturing companies, manual work processes are still used, which poses a real challenge given the shortage of skilled workers and rising labor costs.
The APA app uses specially developed validation sheets that enable an objective assessment of the automatability of production processes and serve as the basis for informed decisions.
Through the use of this method, the APA app can precisely determine the „Fitness for Automation“ (see figure) of individual processes. Both the automation and savings potential are taken into account in order to specifically prioritize investments and identify worthwhile options.
The user-friendly interface of the APA app enables easy navigation and operation, facilitates usage, and increases the efficiency of the analysis processes, leading to faster and more precise results.
