Cloud-based test automation framework for connected mobility

With up to 30,000 automated test results per day, we create the basis for stable digital vehicle services and accelerated development processes.

Test automation in the context of digital vehicle services

Scalable quality assurance for growing system landscapes.

Modern vehicles are part of complex digital ecosystems. Functions are continuously expanded, services are provided on a cloud basis and updates are rolled out in short cycles. The speed of innovation has become a competitive factor.

This also increases the demand for test automation and monitoring. Quality must not become a bottleneck, but must provide targeted support for development. This is precisely where we come in with scalable testing and monitoring frameworks.

Further development of an established test landscape in the premium segment

High variant diversity, international markets and shorter release cycles.

An established test automation framework with a cloud-based infrastructure already existed in the project environment of an international premium car manufacturer. However, the scope and complexity grew significantly with the continuous expansion of digital vehicle services.

New services, additional markets and language versions as well as different vehicle platforms led to a sharp increase in the number of test cases. At the same time, development and release cycles have become shorter.

The existing test landscape not only had to be operated in a stable manner, but also structurally developed further. Transparency of test results, scalable infrastructure, efficient test data management and proactive monitoring of productive systems and digital vehicle services became key requirements.

The aim was to completely take over the existing framework infrastructure, consolidate responsibility and create a solid foundation for further growth.

Mastering complexity, ensuring stability

High system dependencies, increasing test depth and international coordination.

The challenge lay not only in operations, but in ensuring transparency, scalability and speed across multiple markets, systems and teams at the same time.

  • Takeover and stabilization of a grown AWS-based framework landscape
  • Cross-system dependencies between digital services, vehicle platforms and backends.
  • Web portals and mobile apps must work closely with CONNECT vehicle functions - without side effects.
  • Market-specific differences in language, compliance and configuration
  • Wide range of variants for vehicle and user constellations
  • Need for structured, automated test data management to enable realistic test scenarios
  • Integration into agile development processes with short release cycles
  • Coordination of an international multidisciplinary team across several countries

Holistic testing and monitoring framework

Takeover, further development and scaling of a group-wide platform.

We completely took over TESTA as an existing test automation framework including cloud infrastructure and developed it further in a structured manner. This was not just about stable operation, but also about creating a platform that can keep pace with growing system complexity.

The framework bundles web, mobile and interface tests as well as vehicle simulation in a common architecture. This creates authentic end-to-end tests across all systems involved - from the backend to the application.

A central reporting ecosystem ensures transparency across all test runs. Results are comprehensibly evaluated, automatically distributed and visualized in clear dashboards. In addition, a machine learning-based analysis of unusual patterns enables early detection of quality deviations.

We place a particular focus on efficient test data management. Different vehicle and user constellations can be generated and managed automatically. This reduces manual effort and significantly increases the reproducibility of complex test scenarios.

By integrating it into existing development processes, we support rapid software releases while maintaining a high level of stability and quality. TESTA is therefore now a central quality assurance platform for digital vehicle services in use throughout the Group.

Ownership

The complete takeover of the existing framework and cloud infrastructure was implemented in a structured manner within a short space of time. Clear responsibilities, defined operating processes and a consolidated architecture created a resilient basis for further growth. The platform is now set up in such a way that new services, markets and system requirements can be integrated without jeopardizing the stability of ongoing operations.

Simulation

Bundling web, mobile, interface and simulation tests creates a consistent end-to-end test chain across all systems involved. Changes are not viewed in isolation, but are tested in the overall context. This significantly increases the depth of testing and sustainably reduces the risk of unexpected side effects between the backend, applications and vehicle-related functions.

Scenarios

A structured test data ecosystem enables the automated generation and management of complex vehicle and user constellations. This allows for the reproducible mapping of realistic scenarios without creating manual bottlenecks. The efficiency of the testing process increases noticeably, while at the same time the quality and comparability of the results are improved.

Monitoring

Up to 30,000 automated test results per day provide continuous quality assessment. Deviations are identified early through structured evaluation, real-time dashboards, and data-based pattern recognition. Integration into existing CI/CD processes supports fast releases without compromising stability or test coverage.
